MINING CAMP
El PEÑON. II Region, Chile.
Project: 2005
Execution: 2006
Area: 2500m2
This Mining Hotel is located in the desert. Based on containers, it is organized by intermediate groups that generate a larger, repetitive module, consisting of five bedroom containers plus one bathroom. This allows the improvement of light and temperature conditions both inside the bedrooms and in the common areas and at the same time, contributes to reducing energy expenditure in heating and ventilation.
A challenge was to move the existing containers to the new building, while the work continued to operate 24 hours. Sea containers were used on two floors. It has a capacity for 320 people with 16 modules of bathrooms. A stretched canvas on a steel structure ensures the shade to withstand the high temperatures of the day, protection against the cold desert at night and the correct circulation of air despite the strong winds.
