Santiago, Chile
Project that reflects cultural and heritage traditions in a contemporary work for the new Santiago skyline.
The image we have of our countries is based on traditions and symbols. One of the Chilean symbols is the copihue flower. We propose to work on the aesthetics and the concept of this particular species because it represents an image recognizable by society as a whole. It is the national flower, unique and native to the Chilean territory, the same that accompanies the national celebration.
Its image symbolizes the national parks in the official signage that travel the roads of the country. However, this species is now in danger of extinction and its image is only remembered at parties; It is a very powerful symbol but scarcely present in everyday life, so it is considered necessary to restore its relevance.
The copihue is one of the most present motifs in various local handicrafts, the most unique being the handicraft weaving crafts, originally from Rari (Maule Region), a unique tradition in America. This craftsmanship, of great technical, aesthetic and cultural value, has been little diffused, so this project is presented as an opportunity to expose and communicate it.
